RMT Will Not Allow Tube Bosses To Bulldoze Through Station Cuts

From RMT London Transport Regional Organiser John Leach

STATIONS DEVELOPMENT CENTRES

It has become blatantly apparent that management are attempting to bulldoze through changes without agreement. They must not be allowed to do this.

Whilst it is true to say there have been talks with the company no agreements of any kind have been made. I was therefore stunned to learn that SS, SAMF and SCRA members who have not given an indication that they wish to take Voluntary Severance are being summoned to Stations Development Centres for assessment and training to see how you will fit into LUL’s brave new world.

As I said, there is no agreement for this and you are advised not to cooperate in this in any way.

Management have no right to expect your involvement in this process. When this was touched upon in negotiations it was made quite clear that such development would be on a purely voluntary basis.

But the notices I’m seeing suggest that everything is all stitched up and you are compelled to go. THIS IS NOT THE CASE and you will not be in breach of your contract of employment if you refuse to cooperate until such a time as there is agreement to do so.

I have this week written to LUL asking them to withdraw all prior notices specifically the ones where staff are expected to complete LMS Modules in their own time. I attach a copy of my letter.

FIT FOR THE FUTURE UPDATE

Last week myself and my TSSA counterpart, Wayne Geoghegan, drafted and sent a joint letter to LUL’s Chief Operating Officer expressing our concerns with the way things were going and what we now expect management to do if further industrial action is to be avoided. This letter is attached and it’s important that you take the time to read it.

Both RMT and TSSA still have live valid mandates for industrial action. As each day passes it seems clearer that we may once again have to use them. So continue to stand by your colleagues and your union and be prepared.
