Prime Minister Wrong On Ticket Office Use

At a recent Prime Minister's Questions, PM David Cameron said “The fact is that only 3% of transactions now involve ticket offices, so it makes sense to have fewer people in those offices.” Website Fullfact has contacted TfL who said that this figure is wrong.

The truth is that around 3% of journeys begin at a ticket office - for most other journeys people may for example be using a travelcard they previously bought at a ticket office, or a prepay Oyster.

In December 2013 2.25 million ticket sales were made at a ticket office

However, of all transactions, in October of last year TfL's own figures show that 19% or 2.25 million ticket sales were made at a ticket office.
