Every Job Matters Dispute - ACAS Update

27 January 2014

RMT

RMT representatives met under the auspices of ACAS last Monday and Friday.

On Monday we told ACAS that we believed the consultation process is flawed and that LUL are going through a sham consultation because they are imposing the changes, have already sent out severance letters and are repeatedly bypassing the unions. We also stated that LUL were only engaging us in talks to give cover and credibility to their planned job cuts. We pointed out that one of our main concerns was the appalling attempt to make station grades reapply for their jobs and restructure and reduce frontline staff by just under 1000. We also needed to know where the other 94% of savings were going to be made especially as the current cuts to station grades would only achieve 6% of the savings that LUL have to make – LUL have stated that there are no plans in place.

On Friday we raised our concerns that far from it just being the station grades affected by these cuts LUL are also targeting other grades in order to make the necessary saving required of them. We were aware that a meeting had taken place around the issue of “Fit for future Trains” for example. We demanded they come clean and discuss these proposals in an honest and straightforward manner. Most of the day was spent attempting to get a straight yes or no answer. After 6 hours one LUL Director would only state that he personally did not know of any such meeting whilst earlier in the day another LUL Director stated that meetings were taking place all of the time but he was not aware of this one.

Further exploratory talks will take place tomorrow. (28th January)
