London Underground Document Gives More Detail On Devastating Cuts Plan

The RMT have recieved a new document which reveals more details of London Undergrounds cuts plan. This newly released document, attached below, is a 'Change Assurance Plan' which gives some further insight into what these cuts, if successful, could mean in health & safety terms .

The document is very low on detail of how the proposed changes to station staffing structure will impact on the driver grade. However, section 2.7 claims that there are no changes proposed to train operations.

It is very difficult to see how this can be the case when drivers rely upon station staff for many tasks including: assisted dispatch particularly important for station starter signal failures, Scotch and clipping of points when required, attending train in cases of trip cock failure or door failures (open), PEA operation, person Ill on train, point to point working, failure of control governor and requirement to check train line air, radio failures and much more. This is before we even mention dealing with the aftermath of emergencies.

This list is far from exhaustive!

Section 3.3 of the document makes it clear of the location where we can expect little or no support from station staff during operational problems and Section 3.3 touches on the type of assistance we might be getting from station staff. This section seems to imply that there will be different levels of SA with some not having the qualifications or experience required to assist us when we have problems.

The RMT is pushing hard to get the full details of London Underground's plans. This union is in dispute over London Undergrounds job cut plans and is currently balloting for industrial action.
