TFL Cuts Campaign – Summary of Campaigning Actions to Date
  • A meeting has taken place at GS level with ASLEF, TSSA, Unite and the TUC where agreement was reached to hold a joint campaign against the cuts.
  • It was agreed that the joint campaign would be facilitated through the existing joint rail union Action for Rail Campaign which is coordinated by the TUC and South East TUC.
  • Other organisations have come on aboard to support the campaign including the National pensioners Convention, Disabled People against the Cuts and Transport for All.
  • The Union has successfully submitted a motion to the International Transport Workers Federation and an Emergency motion to the TUC calling for support to oppose the TFL cuts.

  • A motion in parliament has been tabled by the RMT Parliamentary Group to support keeping guards on Trains and the Greater London Authority Members have been issued briefings.
  • The Union used the Tory Party Conference to release the attached research highlighting the fact that while the Mayor is proposing staff cuts, fares have risen six times faster than wages.
  • The Union commissioned Survation to seek the views of a 1000 tube users on ticket office cuts , with passengers voicing overwhelming opposition and indicating that they would not support a Mayor who broke his promises on this issue. Press release attached.
  • The Union released the above survey on the day the Union gave evidence to the GLA Transport Committee Inquiry into the TFL cuts.
  • An initial Action for Rail Save London Transport Staff Day of Action was held on 23 October where RMT activists organised protests and distribution of campaign postcards at 12 TFL / LUL controlled stations.
