What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT In Dispute With Tube Bosses Over 'Red Line Issue' Of Mobile Station Supervision

We note the correspondence from London Underground Ltd and the report from our Regional Organiser. It is clear that the company fully intends to impose mobile station supervision at seven stations, that this will lead to a further extension of this practice, and that it will not commit to round-the-clock station supervision.

We have previously declared this to be a ‘red line’ issue for this union, and that we insist on a station supervisor on duty in person at every station at all time. Accordingly, we declare this union to be in dispute with London Underground Ltd on this issue. We will defend this principle with all means at our disposal, up to and including industrial action.

We instruct the General Secretary to:

  • send a personal letter to all members outlining this union’s stance
  • obtain from every branch with London Underground members a plan for visiting workplaces to explain and promote this dispute
  • seek wide publicity for this dispute, including producing stickers and a leaflet for the public
  • request supportive GLA members to raise this issue in the Assembly, and request our Parliamentary group to table an Early Day Motion
  • continue to attend talks at ACAS
  • write to the TSSA seeking its support and cooperation in this dispute

This matter is to be placed back in front of us in the event of any developments, and in any case within 21 days.

London Transport Regional Council, branches and all London Underground representatives to be advised.
