What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT Protest Against Staff Cuts At London Transport Museum

We note the report from our Regional Organiser and the documentation on file.

This union completely rejects the proposal to reduce staffing at the London Transport Museum by six full-time-equivalent posts. We reiterate our opposition to all moves to cut jobs at this essential cultural and historical asset, whether the employer intends to achieve this through compulsory redundancy, voluntary severance or any other method.

We note the demonstration at City Hall tomorrow morning (Wednesday 27 March, 09:00- 10:00), and instruct the General Secretary to ensure that there is a visible RMT presence at this.

We further note plans to leaflet Museum visitors each day from 3rd to 6th April, and instruct the General Secretary to encourage RMT members to take part.

We note that our Regional Organiser is to meet with TSSA soon to discuss this matter and instruct the General Secretary to place a report of these discussions in front of us, including the prospects for industrial action to oppose cuts and defend jobs.

London Transport Regional Council, branches and TfL representatives to be advised.
