What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT Opposed To Fingerprinting of Cleaner Members

We note the report from our Regional Organiser as to the current situation with Initial’s use of fingerprinting for booking on. Although this is to be ‘voluntary’, with the alternative being telephone booking-on, we continue to oppose the installation of the machines and insist that cleaners book on with the person in charge of the workplace where they are due to work.

We await the report instructed by our previous decision as to what action the members involved are prepared to take, and instruct the General Secretary to place this in front of us once received. We also instruct the General Secretary to draw this matter to the attention of our representatives of those grades (eg. Station Supervisors) whose jobs may be undermined by the removal of their responsibility to book cleaners on duty

London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.
