HOT Procedure

RMT prepares to ballot over new 'HOT' procedure

That we note the resolution from our Piccadilly & District West Branch, and are stunned that given the contentious historical nature of this matter which places the travelling public and our members in danger; that the company have again put forward a procedure without adequate consultation, and imposed it on staff despite our H&S representatives raising serious concerns about it.

RMT is fully opposed to the opening of unattended bags as part of the HOT protocol

Following a bomb in a bag being left on a train at North Greenwich back in 2016 concerns were raised by the RMT about the effectiveness of the HOT protocol. In response meetings were held with LU at which members of LU’s Security team stated that the opening of unattended bags was part of the HOT protocol, something that came as a surprise to everyone except LU’s Security team.

RMT issues advice to members on the 'HOT' procedure

Dear Colleague,

Further to Head Office Circular NP/111/17 the National Executive Committee instructed that advice be provided to RMT members on LUL's HOT Procedure.

Please also find attached a copy of the advice and a copy of RMT's pamphlet on 'serious and imminent' danger.

If any further assistance or information is needed on this matter please contact your local RMT representative.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary

Central Line East branch raises concerns over 'HOT' procedure, air quality and safe drinking water on tube

We note the resolution from our Central Line East Branch regarding the breakdown in the reasonable treatment of our members in relation to palatable drinking water, the serious health & safety issue for staff and the travelling public regarding the matter of the air quality which exceeds the expert recognised safety limits, and the appalling disregard for the safety of staff and public in relation to London Undergrounds insistence on introducing a HOT procedure that completely breaks with established and current approaches to dealing with suspect packages.

DfT has NOT driven or endorsed London Underground's revised HOT procedure

Further to our decision NWW 11.7.17, and upon further examination; we consider it important to note that there has been no changes to Government guidance around HOT procedures, and instructing staff to open or tamper with suspicious packages is contrary to current guidance and puts staff and the travelling public in severe and imminent danger.

RMT to issue guidance to members on dealing with suspect devices

TUBE UNION RMT said today that it is to issue new guidance to members in dealing with suspect devices as the union pledged again to resist attempts by London Underground to water down safety and security procedures.

Proposals by LU bosses to tamper with the existing processes have sparked a furious reaction from RMT members and reps – particularly in light of the North Greenwich bomb incident.

As a result, RMT’s executive has agreed the following:

RMT calls for reversal of all tube cuts following North Greenwich security incident

Today (Thursdsy, 27th October) senior RMT Health and safety reps from both LUL and Tubelines and myself attended a special Health and safety forum (summit) called after last week's security incident at North Greenwich.

Directors of LUL and senior management as well as the chief Inspector of B.T.Police were in attendance. We were updated on the incident and other security matters. It was stated to us that the level of threat remains Severe, unchanged since August 2014.
