I would like to encourage all activists to attend this year’s commemoration of the Burston Strike School. The RMT wishes to have as large a presence as possible at this important event in the trade union calendar.
We will commemorate the longest strike in history, and celebrate the people who continue to fight for trade union rights, working class education, democracy in the countryside, and international solidarity.
Venue: Conway Hall, Red Lion Square (Holborn tube)
Speakers include:
- John McDonnell MP (Labour, Hayes and Harlington),
- Bob Crow (RMT General Secretary)
- Tony Juniper (ex Director, Friends of the Earth, Green Party candidate)
- Ian Terry (worker from the Vestas wind turbine factory)

Don't miss this important meeting on the UK's future direction in the era of Climate Emergency - are we moving full steam ahead towards Green Jobs and the Green Energy Revolution at a speed that we can and should ?

Pensions are a very important issue to workers - they ensure a comfortable and dignified retirement - and yet seem both complicated and continually under threat.

- RMT representation on the bodies that oversee your pension
- ill-health pensions
- medical termination

The Harrow Times website is reporting that "The event [the protest against the mosque] is being advertised through social networking website Facebook where 206 people say they will go, 560 say they might go and 1,120 are yet to reply." It has been taken off the English Defence League and British Defence League websites, but some of these facebook groups are sponsored by them and by similar groups. One belongs to a woman who asks people to contact her if they want to take part and advertises herself as a "fan" of Nick Griffin, the BNP and Enoch Powell. The EDL is the group that rampaged through Luton, where they were not opposed, smashing the windows of Asian owned shops and shouting abuse at Muslims. We cannot allow them to march unopposed through Harrow. If they get away with doing that, they will be back for more.
Venue: Unity House.
Sponsored by Camden 3 branch. Leaflet attached.

As you will probably know, RMT will be holding a Special General Meeting in early November, which will discuss four rule changes submitted by branches. All these rule changes seek to improve our union's democracy, as follows:
- to extend the time available to branches to submit amendments to resolutions to the union's AGM - to ensure that during disputes, the union's Executive considers the views of a strike committee elected by and from the striking members - to create a larger, more diverse and representative Annual General Meeting
