What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT to Tory mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith: threaten our travel benefits and we will ballot for strike

STAFF FAMILY TRAVEL FACILITIES – LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/12/2)

The following resolution has recently been received from our Central Line West Branch:-

“This Branch notes the appalling attacks that have been public made by Conservative Mayoral candidate Zak Goldsmith against tube workers. This includes a threat to withdraw the long held travel passes for staff family members. Whoever is Mayor, we will not accept any attack on our terms and conditions.

This Branch demands

A commitment to a full ballot of all London Underground staff if there is any attack on any term and condition.

That the Union publicises the fact that a Goldsmith win will lead to mass industrial action on the tube.

That the National Executive Committee gives consideration to a demonstration at an event Goldsmith is due to attend just before Election Day”.

This matter has been considered by the National Executive Committee, which has taken the decision to respond to the threats by London Mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith to withdraw staff nominee passes by issuing a statement that these passes are part of our terms, conditions and wages and that any attempt to withdraw them would lead to us balloting our members for industrial action. Furthermore, to organise a demo against Zac Goldsmith in conjunction with the LTRC.

I am currently acting in accordance with this decision and will keep Branches informed of all further developments.

Yours sincerely
